Eden is a first landscape — painted in the shift after a residency at Bundanon, in a forest near Lennox Head. Light breaks through the canopy in fractured, shifting bands, falling across a scene that felt less observed than received. Painted in acrylic on canvas, the work sits at a threshold between the karri forests that shaped Caris’s early life in Northcliffe and a landscape encountered fresh, on unfamiliar ground. Eden marks a departure into new terrain for an artist whose practice has long circled forest, coast, and reef — the first time that vocabulary has been tested somewhere entirely new.
